Stuff or Happiness? press release

Wise women and men, hermits and poets,  grandmothers and grandfathers, and now even social scientists and psychologists all agree. Stuff doesn't make us happy.  Yet we use precious resources on things that we buy today and send to landfill tomorrow. Dr Roz Sunley from the University of Winchester is the lead speaker on “Stuff or Happiness?” at the coming Winchester Action on Climate Change (WinACC ) and Friends of the Earth meeting at 7.30 pm on 8 July at the United Church, Jewry Street Winchester SO23 8RZ.

Dr Sunley leads the Winchester Masters in Business Administration and teaches Responsible Management/Business Ethics in the Winchester Business School. An international teacher and speaker. she firmly believes that we will increase our wellbeing if we can break the cycle of consumption, spending and growth.

WinACC hopes the event will challenge the way we look at the things we buy and why we constantly seem to need more. “This stimulating evening will how we’ve been fooled into believing that our well-being depends on buying more things and getting more money” said Susie Phillips, Climate Action Coordinator from WinACC. “We want to get people thinking about ways they can live more simply and have a happier life, as well as saving resources for our children and grandchildren’s futures. Can wanting less give us more?”

The event is free and open to all, with refreshments from 7.15pm.
